I am a design person, so my goal was to bring this attitude into the CBD skincare market and fill the gap.

HOW DID YOU START THINKING ABOUT HEMERYNE?

In 2019, I realized I was using way too many products for my daily skincare.

I would often find myself throwing them away unfinished, since meanwhile new, more promising products were being released on the market. Or because they had been open for a while and did not look fresh to me anymore. And I had a point - putting an oxidized, congealed, and contaminated product on my skin has never appealed to me. I don't know about you!

So, I decided - in my small way - to try and do something to lessen the burden of the 120 billion packages produced each year by the cosmetics industry. I did so, by adopting a skincare routine that is essential at its fullest.
Just three steps: I cleanse, I moisturize, and of course I protect myself.

That's the process that led me to develop the first product of the HEMERYNE line.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE AS AN INDIE BRAND?

The biggest hurdle I faced during the process was not about the formula but rather the difficulty in finding the right packaging.

Having worked in a branding agency for so many years, I became a very visual person. Packaging is any brand’s calling card, it needs to be unique. But I didn't want just any pack, I wanted to take a leap and do something for the planet.

Sad to say, but I soon discovered that making sustainable choices is quite challenging for an indie brand: the minimum production quantities of any packaging are always too high.

I consider myself happy, though, for the amazing packaging choices I was able to make. The single-dose vials are made with 80% of recyclable plastic from dismissed PET bottles, a lovely gesture towards the environment and a very practical ritual for my customers.

Carlo worked as a graphic designer until 2015, before shifting his career into writing. 
After three years of experience in tv shows production, he is now a full-time freelance journalist, with a focus on food and travel.
Carlo also works as a consultant for food-related projects and is always up-to-date with communication trends and new media.
